Free accounts get fewer likes, and that tells you something

62,051 profiles in our catalog cost nothing to join. Their median like count is a third lower than paid pages, which is the opposite of what a free door should do.
A free subscription removes the only barrier between a curious visitor and the page. So free pages should collect likes faster than paid ones. In our catalog they do not.
The numbers
Across 182,191 profiles:
- Paid profiles (120,140 of them): median 3,082 likes
- Free profiles (62,051 of them): median 2,114 likes
That is a gap of about a third, going the wrong way.
The averages, meanwhile, are nearly identical. That split between median and average is the whole story: a handful of enormous accounts on both sides pull the average up to twenty five thousand while the typical profile sits near two or three thousand. The largest single account in the catalog has 13,089,696 likes. It is not representative of anything.
Why the gap probably exists
Two explanations fit, and they are not exclusive.
The first is selection. Setting a paid subscription is a decision made by someone who already believes people will pay. Creators with no audience often go free because free is the safer default, not because it is a strategy. So the paid group is filtered toward people who were already doing well.
The second is where the effort goes. A free page earns nothing from subscriptions, so the revenue comes from paid messages and tips. That work happens in private, one buyer at a time, and none of it produces public likes.
What this means when you are browsing
Do not read a free page as a worse page. Read it as a page with a different business model. The subscription is the trailer, and the product is behind individual purchases.
Practical version:
- A free page with high likes is genuinely popular and worth a look.
- A free page with few likes might be new, or might be a funnel to expensive messages. The bio usually says which.
- A paid page at the median $10 with a few thousand likes is the ordinary case, not a red flag.
